He married Elisabeth Christina Lippens on 1 March 1916 in Amsterdam and on 27 May 1916 he leaves Rotterdam on the steamship ‘Rijndam’ for America.
Adrianus Hartog - Dr. Adrian Hartog (1893-1963) was a member of the Order of the Crown of Thorns. After moving to the United States, he established an import business. He was appointed Vice-Consul and then Consul General for the Netherlands in Los Angeles, California.
In 1957, Hartog composed the music to a Centennial Hymn ‘THE WORLD IS WAITING FOR THE DAWN’ for the Christian Reformed Church, a Dutch Reformed body that was a focus for the Dutch-American community. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Southern California in 1932.
The only time he mentioned that he was married was 6 May 1917 on the USA WW1 draft registration card on it he states he is married with 1 child. On his naturalization petition in 1922 he states he has no children.

In the newspaper article about Adrianus Hartog you can see that he was not exactly truthful. He does not mention that he was married before and has a son. He states he met his first love Claude Brooks (somewhere between 1916 and 1919 he meets Claude Telmera Brooks) and forgot about going to Indonesia which is also not true as they were in that part of the world and were married in Singapore in 1919. In 1921 the couple arrive in New York via Plymouth in England.

His second wife Claude Telmera Brooks (name also recorded as Claudia) had been married before to John A Kelly on 3 June 1908 Muscogee County, Georgia. She is the daughter of Benjamin Thomas Brooks and Lula Tamara Jordan. Claude was born on October 19, 1887 in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia as recorded on 1900 Census with parents. She states on her naturalization form that she is born 19 October 1891 Columbus, Muscogee county. On her marker at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Glendale her birth is given as 1894. For the sake of my own sanity I have recorded her as born in 1891 on all the jpegs. Claude and Adrianus had no children. Claude and her first husband John A Kelly also had no children. In 1928 both Adrianus and Claude become USA citizens, Claude had become a Dutch citizen by marriage she was of course a USA citizen prior to that by birth. Both are interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, Adrian in Plot: Sanctuary of Understanding, FM, Lot 0, Space 22795, Claude (Claudia) same details as Adrianus but in Space 22794.
